I’m a 42 year old, who has hated dentists for over 40 years! I had been putting off removing my wisdom teeth for almost a decade. Although they were not causing me pain, they were making cleaning difficult, if not impossible and were contributing to periodontitis. There was always a good excuse: living abroad, not enough vacation or high blood pressure. Eventually, I ran out of excuses and was referred to Dr. Jose F. Lopez, DDS. During my initial consultation, Dr Lopez and his staff answered all of my questions, put me at ease and even managed to convince me that removing all four of them under local anesthetic was a viable, pain free and quick option. I initially scoffed at this suggestion, but upon reflection I decided that this was the least invasive, cost effective option. Here’s the thing with wisdom teeth extractions, everyone has a horror story, dry sockets, swollen face, or lots of pain. You never talk to someone who says, yeah it was no big deal. So, my decision to voluntarily have all four of my wisdom teeth extracted under local anesthetic amazed my family and friends (and even myself). I can honestly say that I would not have even considered it, if it were not for Dr Lopez and his staff. The day of the surgery arrived and so did I, scared, anxious and worried about the experience I was about to endure. The reception staff, were quick, efficient, and friendly. The surgical assistants ran through the procedure, my treatment plan, and my post operative care including, cleaning, medication and eating. Dr Lopez entered, discussed application of the anesthetic and made sure I was relaxed, and was given enough time to freeze up. He is an open, friendly and funny guy! During the extractions Dr Lopez checked in with me constantly and any wince, eye twitch or slight moan would top up the anesthetic and never rushed the process. I was in the chair for maybe 40 minutes, and can honestly say I never felt any pain. Post Op, I was amazed with the results. I had very little bleeding beyond 24 hours, zero pain or swelling on three sites and only minimal pain and swelling on the lower right extraction but within 72 hours I felt great. So, I would thoroughly recommend Dr Lopez and his team, they provide a wonderful pain free service. And if your looking for that one wisdom teeth extraction story that went flawlessly this is it, I’m that story!

I really enjoyed my visit! Dr. Lopez and his assistants made sure I was comfortable and fully aware of the situation and provided detailed instructions for my post-op. It was easy-breezy and super quick while I was under anesthesia. I felt no pain and they covered me in a very warm blanket. I would highly recommend him to anyone!

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed this morning with Dr. Lopez! Everyone in the office radiates positive energy, and make you feel at ease. They provide you with detailed pre-op and detailed post-op instructions, and even a few supplies to take home. Although I was dreading having to get my teeth removed, it was the best course of treatment, and they made me as comfortable as possible! 🙂

I was referred to Dr. Lopez to have my bottom wisdom teeth removed because they were impacted. Just off of first impressions his office is very nice and clean. His employees were all very nice and helpful. I went in for my consultation and since I have a shunt in my brain Dr. Lopez wanted to be safe and have me get a physical to get clearance to have the surgery done. I really appreciated him for taking the time to cover all the basis and make sure there would be no complications for either him or me on the day of surgery. The day of surgery was a breeze. A couple days afterwards unfortunately I got a dry socket which had me in so much pain I couldn’t open my mouth and it was giving me a bad headache. (That wasn’t the doctors fault it just sometimes happens when getting your wisdom teeth removed.) I called his office to see if I could come in and be looked at and his staff was nice enough to get me in within two hours. I went in and Dr. Lopez treated me and lessened my pain tremendously. Dr. Lopez and his staff are AMAZING!!!!!

My experience with Dr. Lopez was amazing, plus that staff was very nice and helpful. Every question I had they knew the answer. Their very knowledgeable. Dr. Lopez took my bottom wisdom teeth out and I did not feel nothing. I’m very happy.
I’m definitely coming again to take my top wisdom teeth out. Also I’m going to bring my little brother when his wisdom teeth come out.

I have had bad experiences in the past with even minor fillings, so I was nervous when he said that we’d be removing #4 with a local only (because of my medical history).

He lived up to his word that I would be completely numb for the whole thing. Furthermore, his manner put me very much at ease and his staff was efficient and nice. They followed up with me and I even left the office with Dr. Lopez’s personal phone number. When my pharmacy lost a couple of the prescriptions he sent over, he phoned them in (on a Friday evening) and got it taken care of.

Excellent! Went in on Friday to have all four wisdom teeth removed… Doctor Lopez and his staff were extremely helpful and thorough. Would totally invite them all out for BBQ. 10/10 Quality of Care. Felt extremely comfortable the whole time.

Got my wisdom teeth removed here. A nice doctor with a very friendly staff. Made the process go so smoothly. Definitely recommend him to anyone looking to get wisdom teeth remved.

Dr. Lopez and his wife and the other lady that work up front are, all three, very sweet. I haven’t had the easiest time with scheduling – from my side – and the ladies are always so patient with me. Dr. Lopez explains everything that is going to happen and gives the patient a choice of options, when he can. I recommend them highly. I don’t know why the score reads 4.8. It should be a 5.0!

-Audrey M.

I went to go get my Wisdom Teeth extracted here and the staff and Oral Surgeon were great. They made sure I was comfortable before and after the procedure. DDS JF Lopez is awesome! He explained what he was going to do and how. I appreciated how thoughtful he was and how it seemed to me he cared about the person sitting in that chair. Everyone there was warm and friendly.. Definitely recommend him to everyone:)

For wisdom teeth: went to 2 other oral surgeons before deciding to have my wisdom teeth removed here. I’m extremely cautious with my dentistry and with surgeries. Dr. Lopez was certainly a competent oral surgeon (no complications) and their offices are clean and the staff is well informed. My wife will get her wisdom teeth removed from here next. Would recommend to those looking for a good oral surgeon. (FYI they accepted both my health and dental insurance, both through Aetna HMO and dental PPO. Cost: $110 out the door)

-Derek A.

Dr. Lopez is excellent! I TOTALLY recommend him! He answered all of my questions patiently and explained to me EVERYTHING in details BEFORE I had my surgery. He wasn’t trying to convince me to do the surgery (like many doctors do). I could tell that he was more concerned in doing the right thing than to just get money from patients. Seriously, what an excellent doctor! And believe me, I’m hard to please. Oh, and his staff- the dental assistants are warm and so friendly!

Dr Lopez is pretty confident and does a pretty good job every time, I have been there two times…no problem. I have to admit his service might be a little pricey however from my experience, they have never called me later asking for more money… unlike many other doctors do. His personnel is also friendly

The receptionist/office manager was great, very helpful. I was expecting to pay over $600 for the extraction of my wisdom teeth, which is what the last dental office was going to charge me (Lovett Dental). Turns out my procedure wasn’t categorized properly. The office manager called my insurance and made sure what was covered. Turns out I was only needing to pay $76. Dr. Lopez was very attentive and friendly, everything was explained clearly. The procedure lasted about 40 mins, I was in and out. I have already recommended Dr. Lopez and his staff to several people. If I had to do it all over again, I would go to Dr. Lopez again.

Dr. Lopez and his staff were awesome! I had to have my wisdom teeth removed and was extremely afraid. They walked me through the process made me as comfortable as possible and I didn’t feel a thing. They provided excellent care and customer service during the procedure and called to check on me throughout the healing process. Would definitely recommend!

Summary: the doctor did a good job, he was friendly and took time to explain what is going on.

Some details: I went in to extract the four wisdom tooth. Like most, I had some concerns with such surgery. MY tooth were not impacted.
Went in for the pre surgery meeting, watched a scary video that says you can have tons of complications. Doctor came to explain couple of things then off to take an appointment. Things went pretty fast.
I decided to take a local anesthesia. The ladies in the service told me this is what they did and they did not feel a thing so it helped me decide (other choice was IV sedation).

Then the surgery: everything went fast, only felt a tiny bit the anesthesia then less than what after, I was driving back home.

2h later, lot of blood, you swallow it a lot, made my stomach hurts for 5 days along with headache, got a very sick week end. Called the doctor on the emergency number to check if everything was normal on a Saturday, he answered and advised to take time or things like that. I drank coke and ate tums. 24h later I was better. Guess my blood was indigest. For that part, everyone can answer differently to such surgery.

So doctor and the team provided good care and instructions on how to deal with the whole thing. I recommend people to go there if they have to do an extraction although I cannot compare what experience I d have at another office (and to be honest I don’t want to ever know how it could have been).

I have never written a review on Yelp before, but Dr. Lopez did such an awesome job yesterday, him and the staff are well deserving of a post.

I got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday and the whole procedure was a breeze. From the moment I arrived until the moment I left, the Doctor and staff worked to make sure all of my nerves about the surgery were relieved.

The extraction itself was painless and quick, never thought that it could be so. In fact, he took more time making sure that I was comfortable beforehand, and preparing me moving forward, than the actually surgery itself!

Dr. Lopez was a very cool guy too. That on top of the fact that he’s obviously extremely skilled and smart, made me feel very safe under his care and am very confident recommending him to anyone considering having oral surgery.

-Sam M.

Amazing staff !!! The office is well organized and very professional. They make sure you are comfortable and understand post procedure instructions. The oral surgeon here takes his time and is very caring about what he does !!! Highly recommended!!!

Had an issue with a cracked tooth in my pallet that had to be surgically removed, and Dr Lopez was recommended to me. I live in Pearland, and made to trip out to the Galleria area to get this procedure done. It was definitely worth the effort. This office ran very well and did a great job of making me comfortable. I have never had surgery before and this being my first I had a ton of questions. Dr Lopez and his staff did a great job of being patient and answering all my questions during the entire process. The front desk “Maria”, and Jennifer are awesome. You can tell they are experienced and love what they do. I will definitely recommend this office to anyone looking to have a dental procedure done.

I highly recommend Dr. Lopez. I had 4 wisdom teeth removed by him earlier this month. I first went to his office for the consultation. This was going to be my first surgery and I had so many questions. He made sure all my questions/concerns were answered. Dr. Lopez is also easy to work with and accommodating. I wanted get all 4 teeth extracted at the same time and I only wanted to do local anesthesia, just my personal preference.

I came back to his office for the surgery later that week and the process was very smooth. I had some last minute questions and he was more than happy to answer them. After applying the anesthesia, Dr. Lopez and his team began the surgery. Dr. Lopez is very good about explaining what he is doing during the process. And he consistently asks for your feedback to make sure you are feeling ok. This made me feel comfortable during the procedure. Once the procedure was done I was given a care package, with the next steps on the recovery process and also my prescriptions.

I think everyone has a different recovery experience. Overall my recovery went well. What was nice is that his assistant gave me a call after the surgery to check in with me. I called about a week after the surgery to schedule a check up and they took me in a few days later. I felt I could reach out to Dr. Lopez for any concerns I had. I could not have asked for a better experience.

Just had my second visit to Dr. Lopez and both times went perfectly. Had one wisdom tooth pulled about 6 months ago and just had a second one pulled this week. They treated me without insurance and the prices were higher than w insurance but not outrageous.
The 2nd tooth only took about 15 minutes for the whole procedure and is healing nicely. It only hurt the day after the surgery and by day 3 is feeling fine. Had insurance by this time and price was very affordable.

I have never had oral surgery, but I needed to go in to get three teeth removed. Two of my teeth were erupted and one was impacted, but Dr. Lopez used Local anesthesia and I have yet experience any pain. I just got my surgery done this Tuesday and today is Saturday and have yet to experience any pain. I was really worried before coming in because everyone was warning me about the pain I would be experiencing the day after but I am so glad I haven’t experienced any so far. He was very attentive to my facial expressions during surgery to make sure I was never experiencing any pain and comfortable during the whole process. To sum up how happy I am with this experience, my appointment was scheduled at 8 am and I was out at 9 am! How awesome? I highly recommend him for your oral surgery needs! Thank you Dr. Lopez!

-B.T.

Dr. Lopez is top notch! I went to him because I needed to have my all four of my wisdom teeth removed. I had put off the surgery for a few years because I never felt I had found the right oral surgeon I could trust. Dr. Lopez was exactly what is been looking for: credible, excellent at communication, and thorough. He explained everything about the procedure and we discussed the pros and cons until I was comfortable.

A month later I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed and it was virtually pain free! There was even a risk he would hit a nerve but being the excellent surgeon he is, I had no complications. Swelling only lasted about a week and a procedure I deemed as scary ended up being a-okay!

I strongly recommend him and his staff!

-A.L.

Doctor Lopez is AMAZING! I’ve been putting off to take off my wisdom teeth for awhile until I realized that I had absolutely no choice or else I will always have toothaches and infections every now and then. Just the thought of going to the dentist give me jitters so you can imagine how scared I was to do something like extraction of wisdom teeth.

I decided to take out two at a time as those are the ones that keep on giving me problems. One of them was impacted as well. I asked to be put under so that I don’t have to feel anything and in case I flip out in the middle of the surgery. Doctor Lopez told me it’s not necessary. He can just do local anesthesia and assured that I won’t feel the pain. The procedure itself was painless and quick. I walked out his office door in complete disbelief at how easy the procedure went. Soreness only last few days but I didn’t feel much pain or have any complications afterwards at all!

Being the paranoid person I am, , I requested a follow up visit with Doctor Lopez a week after the extraction even though I felt completely fine. They were able to see me in the same week. Doctor Lopez and his staff are very professional to say the least!

Dr. Lopez and his team did a great job on my widsom teeth removal. I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth and I was very afraid of getting them removed. During my initial consultation, Dr. Lopez really put me at ease. He answered all of my questions and Maria followed up with me on issues with my insurance and scheduling.

I was so afraid on my actual appointment day that I wanted to pay the $500 it would cost to be put to sleep, but it turned out that it was not necessary. I was awake (but numb) during the entire procedure and Dr. Lopez made sure that I was comfortable. He explained just enough to keep me at ease, but not too much to scare me. My procedure was slightly technical because of the way my wisdom teeth grew in, but I did not encounter any issues.

My recovery was pretty easy. I didn’t experience any pain or excessive bleeding at all. (I took my meds and followed all instructions carefully.) I was scared because it took about 2-3 months for the feeling to fully return on one side of my jaw. That is because my wisdom tooth was so close to my nerve and Dr. Lopez had fully explained this to me during my consultation. During my follow-up appointments, he was really helpful. I waited until I was 100% recovered to write this review.

I need another minor extraction and I hope to return to his office. Kudos and an A+++ to he and his staff! I am so relieved to have those teeth removed because they were causing me a lot of problems. Oral surgery can be really frightening, but I assure you that Dr. Lopez is a great doctor and he will take great care of you and your teeth!

-D J.

Wisdom tooth removed and actually 98% pain free. Only pinch I felt was the numbing shot. The dentist was very nice and made extra sure I had a nice experience. Well nice as in professional and courteous. They even loved my tattoos. Very awesome and I feel like when the others have to be removed…which they probably will…I will be prepared and not terrified.

Dr. Lopez is so wonderful! I am normally afraid of the Dentist and admit that I do not go as recommended. My Dentist referred me to Dr. Lopez and I got an appointment the next day, A+! When I got there my blood pressure was too high and instead of him taking my money and sending me on my merry way, he made me wait, go to my Doctor, bring him a letter in writing and then come back in a few days so he knows for sure that I’m okay for surgery, A++! The office is neat, the staff is nice and Dr. Lopez is just the perfect Dentist. When I did get back in there, he numbed every single inch of my gums. He was gentle, he constantly asked me if I was okay. He explained everything that he was about to do. He was patient, calm and nice. I was offered a blanket which I accepted. The assistant kept wetting my lips with water since I had my mouth open for an extended time.

Bottom line: Dr. Lopez is the bomb in the Dentist world! Lots of certifications and believe it or not, I am going back tomorrow to get a tooth pulled on the other side of my mouth. It has been one week since the other one was pulled and with following the instructions, taking my meds, etc., I am good! I now trust the Dentist 🙂

I recently had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Lopez and it went as well as I could have hoped. I was nervous since I had never undergone anesthetic, but Dr. Lopez and his staff are very friendly and comforting. Very helpful and understanding when my paranoid self wanted to drop in for them to look at it a couple days later and they fit me in a couple hours later.

Highly recommend!

-Jerry S.

Such a great doctor! He is very forward, tells you everything you need to know, and is very knowledgeable. Surgery was a breeze, no pain whatsoever. He walks you through the entire process, before the surgery and during. I would recommend him and none other.

-Jonathan A.

Nobody reviews a doctor like a doctor!

Dr. Lopez and his staff are very friendly and comforting. Very helpful and understanding when I called I had to leave a voice message because it was after the hours but a couple hours later Maria called me back and fit us in the schedule for next morning.

My mom was referred to Dr. Lopez by her primary care physician. Dr. Lopez and his team did a great job on my mom’s biopsy procedure. After the biopsy report came in, which took about 3 weeks (the longest three weeks in my entire life!), and we had a biopsy-confirmed diagnosis, Dr. Lopez was very accommodating and agreed to have four refills of the medications just because the nature of the disease is chronic and there is a tendency for it to recur and since my mom was returning to her original country outside US, she would not have access to the medication should her mouth condition have recurred.

The procedure room is always cold. Understandably, though! Surgeons always prefer a colder room because of what they are about to do (surgery can be nerve-racking even for the surgeon himself) but the assistant always offers a warm blanket. That is the reason surgeons and anesthesiologists sometimes fight, so to speak! The surgeon wants a very cold room, which can make the patient hypothermic (body temperature dropping too low) and the anesthesiologist does not want the room to be too cold because of that.

Dr. Lopez also made sure that he knows how to say “no pain” in my mom’s native language so when my mom heard that in her native language, she smiled and relieved.

When we got there, my mom’s blood pressure was too high and consequently Dr. Lopez made us get a medical clearance for surgery from my mom’s primary care physician. So he made sure that my mom was OK for biopsy procedure. Here he applied the very basic principle of practicing medicine that is (First Do No Harm) and it just means that!

Dr. Lopez is very methodical and leaves NO room for potential medical error and tells you everything you need to know, and is very knowledgeable.
Dr. Lopez has many degrees – DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery), MD (Medical Doctor), RPH (Registered Pharmacist, I think), and PA (Physician Assistant). AND he is a graduate of Mayo clinic, the world’s best training center. I hope that I will, one day, do my training over there.

I am a physician myself and I am happy that I learned something new from Maria, also. My mom had taken a medication in the past for her osteoporosis (Fosamax) and because that has, on rare occasions, been associated with Osteonecrosis of the Jaw, so we had to be careful with doing any procedure in her mouth. I knew the risk and before using the medication I sent her to a dentist back home but because it is the “third world”, they cleared her but she actually needed a lot of dental work at the time. So the thing that I learned from Maria was having taken alendronate in the past might still give you osteonecrosis of the jaw several years later. I went back to the medical literature that same night and I found out that she was right. Not only that but I learned the reason behind that as well which is the hypothesis that Alendronate stays in the skeleton for several years after you stop it.
Again when I requested a letter so my mom can take to US embassy for her next visa interview, they sent me the letter within 48 hours. 10 stars for Dr. Lopez and his staff.

The office is neat, the staff is nice and Dr. Lopez is always calm cool collected.
